Volkswagen is preparing a major update for its ID.3 electric hatchback. Prototypes of the facelifted version have been spotted in final road tests, with the debut expected later in 2026.

The overall body will remain, but changes will affect the front and rear ends, wheel design, and color palette. Photos show the headlights are positioned lower and visually connected to the emblem by a new graphic element, which may be illuminated. The front bumper will become more sculpted, with enlarged outer air intakes to improve aerodynamics.

The main updates are anticipated inside. Volkswagen plans a full interior refresh, with improved material quality and revised interfaces. The company has confirmed the return of physical buttons, aiming to address criticism of the minimalist controls in current models.

Battery and efficiency tweaks are also promised, along with new features and expanded driver assistance systems. The MEB platform will retain rear-wheel drive and a multi-link rear suspension. This facelift positions the ID.3 as a notable new entry in the compact electric vehicle segment.
