Bugatti doubles down on hybrid hypercars, not full EVs

Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac says the brand won’t go fully electric, backing hybrids for future hypercars. Tourbillon sells out as Bugatti targets Asia in 2026.

Bugatti chief Mate Rimac said the brand has no plans to go fully electric. In his view, the future of hypercars lies with hybrid technology that pairs a powerful combustion engine with a modern electric drive.

Bugatti Rimac, a joint venture with Porsche, will keep building cars where speed, sound, and innovation come together. The new Bugatti Tourbillon with a hybrid powertrain is already sold out despite its €3.8 million price. Rimac noted that the brand’s clients still value the emotions of a real engine, and hybrids let the cars retain their traditional character while remaining more environmentally friendly. It’s a pragmatic course for a marque built on theater as much as performance.

The company also plans to consolidate its presence in Asian markets, including China and Singapore, where demand for exclusive models continues to grow. For buyers considering new cars in 2026, Bugatti’s stance shows that even in an electrified era there’s room for the classic experience—the engine’s roar enhanced by hybrid muscle.
